Description

This article contains all the Poneglyph readers who are associated with known Yonko crews.

With the One Piece franchise drawing closer to its end with every passing chapter, it’s clear that the story is in its final stages. Of course, one of the major points that is yet to be resolved is the titular treasure itself, which is greatly coveted by every character and faction in the series, with the Yonko, or Emperors of the Sea, being the pirates who are the closest to uncovering it.

One of the major obstacles to finding this treasure is pinpointing its location, and that can only be done through deciphering the mysterious Road Poneglyphs that are scattered throughout the world. Since the language and the means of deciphering it are lost to the ages, each Yonko crew must have a singular character who can do so, so let’s take a look at who they are and who the most likely of them all is to uncover One Piece’s ultimate treasure.

Gecko Moria’s Secret Lineage Reveals Him To Be A Poneglyph Reader

Affiliation: Cross Guild, Blackbeard Pirates

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 449, “The Mysterious Four of Thriller Bark”

Story Arc

Thriller Bark

  • Moria was recently revealed to be from the Kozuki clan.

In one of the most unexpected twists in the entire story, Gecko Moria was revealed to be a secret member of the Kozuki Clan who became known as the hidden warrior of Ringo who fought Kaido. Due to the Kozuki Clan’s influence in the world and the fact that it was them who created the Poneglyphs in the first place, the means of reading and understanding the writing on them were passed down through the centuries, which means that Moria may have also gotten this knowledge.

I shall have the Pirate King’s throne!

Since Oden and Sukiyaki already had this knowledge, and the latter is currently teaching his grandchildren to read this language as well, it’s strongly implied that Moria underwent the same tutorship in his youth. In the current day, he was captured by Blackbeard but was eventually saved from Hachinosu by Perona. Due to her relationship with Mihawk, many believe that this was done in order to recruit Moria into the Cross Guild.

Charlotte Pudding Is A Member Of The Three-Eyed Clan Who Can Read Them

Affiliations: Blackbeard Pirates, Big Mom Pirates

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 651, “A Voice From the New World”

Story Arc

Fishman Island

  • Pudding is a member of the Three-Eyed tribe.

Charlotte Pudding is the 35th daughter of Big Mom and was very important to her crew due to being a member of the Three-Eyed tribe. This tribe is special in the world of One Piece, since they are all born with the inherent ability to awaken their true power, which supposedly lets them hear the Voice of All Things once achieved. This allows them to fully understand and decipher the Poneglyphs.

I’m not a puppet, mama…

In the current era, Pudding was kept to undergo this awakening by Big Mom, but when she went to Wano, Totto Land was attacked by the forces of the Blackbeard Pirates, and Pudding was taken. So, right now, she is being kept in the dungeons of Hachinosu to be used as the designated Poneglyph reader for the Blackbeard Pirates. Of course, she hasn’t awakened her secret ability yet, but once she does, she will lead the crew to the One Piece.

Nico Robin Has Spent A Lifetime Uncovering The Secret History

Affiliations: Straw Hat Pirates

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 114, “The Course”

Story Arc

Whisky Peak

  • One of the smartest characters in the world.

Nico Robin has had one of the most notoriously difficult lives in the entire One Piece series, and a lot of that can be attributed to her pursuit of knowledge and the hidden history of the world. Because of this, she has always been on the run from World Government agents who have sought to capture and execute her, leading to many betrayals and double-crosses from all kinds of people.

Fool who don’t respect the past are doomed to repeat it!

Eventually, she made her way to the Straw Hats, with whom she has been able to follow her dreams to the fullest. At an early age, Robin learned how to read the Poneglyphs, due to which she has now become one of the world’s leading authorities on the Void Century, and due to her being one of the series’ main characters, it’s almost definitely going to be her who finally uncovers the truth of everything.

Kozuki Oden Was One Of The Greatest Characters In The Entire Story

Affiliations: Whitebeard Pirates, Roger Pirates

First Appearance

One Piece, Chapter 920, “I Love Oden”

Story Arc

Wano

  • Oden is the only one who could read the Poneglyphs and had the Voice of All Things.

If there was a ranking of the most effective characters to find the One Piece, Kozuki Oden would probably have to be at the top of the list. Not only is he a member of the legendary Kozuki clan who created the Poneglyphs in the first place, but he had also spent his entire life learning how to read their language. On top of this, he was born with the mysterious Voice of All Things ability that allows him to ‘understand’ everything, even inanimate objects.

My name is Kozuki Oden! And I was born… to boil!

So far, Oden has proven to be the only one who can do both of these things, which is why he was the greatest Poneglyph reader. Even Roger was born with the Voice of All Things, but he could never really make full use of it the same way Oden could. Plus, Oden is literally the whole reason the Roger Pirates managed to discover the One Piece treasure in the first place, making him one of the most important characters in entire franchise.

One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
