Which Version of the Silkshot Should You Get in Silksong? (Ruined Tool Guide)
Description
Save for the order in which they decide to explore Pharloom’s many regions, there aren’t too many choices for players to make in Hollow Knight: Silksong. One of the bigger ones pertains to a special item called the Ruined Tool, which players can craft into a powerful weapon known as the Silkshot.
However, depending on where players take the Ruined Tool, the version of the Silkshot that they get will be very different. It isn’t possible to get all three versions of the Silkshot in a single playthrough, so Hollow Knight: Silksong players should think carefully before making their choice.
Players can find the Ruined Tool in the Weavenest Murglin area, which is locked away behind a Needolin door in the southeastern part of Bilewater. To reach it, they’ll first need to drop down into the maggots at the bottom of the screen and then go to their right. After passing through the Needolin door, they’ll again need to drop down to get past a locked gate to their right. Upon doubling back, they’ll find the Ruined Tool on a table.
The Ruined Tool was once a piece of ancient Weaver tech known as the Silkshot. However, before players can use it, they’ll first need to find a way to repair it, to which they have three options. They can either take the Ruined Tool to Forge Daughter in the Deep Docks, Twelfth Architect in the Underworks, or a special crafting table in the northern part of Mount Fay, in a cave just beneath where the Faydown Cloak upgrade is located. The option that players choose will determine which version of the Silkshot they get.
Which Version of the Silkshot is Better?
All three versions of the Silkshot are powerful, but the Silkshot III that players craft for themselves is by far the best. Not only is its railgun-like blast the most powerful, but, when fired in midair, it also suspends Hornet’s position for around half a second, which players can exploit to dodge enemy attacks. When all’s said and done, there’s not too much to choose between the other two versions. Forge Daughter’s
Silkshot I has more ammo than the other two variants, but is limited to a single shot and offers very little hangtime. Twelfth Architect’s
Silkshot IIfires three rounds at a time and thus offers a broader spread, but it holds a bit less ammo and has quite a lot of kickback. It almost doesn’t matter, as for those patient enough to wait for it, the Silkshot that Hornet forges at Mount Fay is easily the best of the three.
