Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Adds 2024 AAA RPG
Description
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has joined the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library earlier today, August 28. This is the 13th and final new addition to Microsoft’s subscription service in August 2025, as well as the 108th new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate release since the turn of the year.
The latest title from BioWare, Dragon Age: The Veilguard underwent a well-documented and troubled development that included two complete reboots and several high-profile departures from the Canadian studio. It finally materialized at the tail end of October 2024, debuting to generally positive reviews, as highlighted by its “Strong” rating on OpenCritic, with an average score of 80 and a 71% reviewer recommendation rate. Its player scores, however, did not match its critical reception, with the game presently holding “Mixed” reviews on Steam, based on nearly 27,500 player impressions. Likewise, its Xbox and PlayStation Store user ratings currently stand at 3.5 and 3.22 stars, respectively.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Joins Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 10 Months Post-Release
Just under ten months following its original release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard made its way to Xbox Game Pass as the final new title added to the service in August 2025. Although not a day-one release, the fantasy RPG is unavailable to Xbox Game Pass Standard subscribers due to its requirement for the EA Play add-on, which is included only with PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Apart from the Xbox Series X/S and PC, XGP members can also experience The Veilguard by streaming it on a supported device via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
As far as big-budget productions from non-Microsoft studios are concerned, it’s somewhat atypical to see them on subscription services within less than a year of their commercial debuts. Such a turn of events can usually be tied to underwhelming sales, which appears to have been the case here as well; EA stated in January 2025 that Dragon Age: The Veilguard underperformed expectations with approximately 1.5 million sales, roughly half of what the publisher was targeting.
All Dragon Age Games Are Now Available on Xbox Game Pass
Following this release, the entire Dragon Age series is now available on Microsoft’s subscriptions service. The first three entries were added to the service in November 2020 and have remained available ever since. While their gameplay loops have a lot of variety between them, all four titles pride themselves on offering meaningful choices and fairly elaborate—though not perfectly consistent—worldbuilding.
